Application Process


Our recruiting process consists of the following stages:


  1. Mental abilities test (SIGMA)
    • Applications packages are reviewed and candidates who have not written a SIGMA examination are called in to write the exam.
    • You may not write the test if you have previously written within 60 days or you have taken the test twice and failed.  You will be asked to provide a declaration respecting this test.
    • Candidate will be required to produce photo identification prior to commencing the test.
  1. Police Officer Physical Abilities Test   
    • Successful candidates of the SIGMA exam will be asked to complete the Peace Officers Physical Abilities Test (POPAT). The POPAT is administered by an independent agency that requires a $80.00 cash fee prior to commencing the POPAT.
    • Candidates will be required to produce photo identification prior to commencing the test.
  1. Personal Disclosure Form
    • Applicants are required to fill in the questionnaire and return.
  1. Interview
    • Successful candidates will have an in-depth interview with the Selection Board.
  1. Medical Examination and Eye Examination
    • Applicants are required to have a medical and eye exam.
  1. Polygraph Testing
    • Successful candidates may be asked to submit to a polygraph test.
  1. Second Interview
    • Successful candidates will have an in-depth interview with Police Administration.
  1. Final Interview
    • Successful candidates will have an in-depth Interview with the Chief of Police.
  1. Conditional Offer of Employment
    • Identified candidates may be offered a position with the Prince Albert Police Service
    • Offer of employment could be as a Special Constable or a regular member.
  1. Police College
    • All candidates who are either hired as a regular member or promoted from a Special Constable will be required to successfully complete 18 weeks of recruit training at the Saskatchewan Police College in Regina.
  1. Field Training
    • Successful graduates of Police College will be required to work with a Training Officer for a period of 6 months or until their required field training syllabus is complete.
