The Prince Albert Police Service has recently investigated a complaint of attempted mail fraud, and would like to remind the public to be very cautious should they receive any similar correspondence, either by mail or e-mail.
In this particular circumstance the potential victim received a letter from what appeared to be a Spanish law firm allegedly trying to disperse a large estate. The letter and law firm website appeared somewhat legitimate, but investigation showed the firm did not exist, and the website’s domain is registered in Nigeria.
NEVER send money to these unsolicited requests. Please remember it is often our elderly friends and loved ones that are victimized by these criminals. Remind your family to be cautious, and that criminals prey on those innocent enough to believe large amounts of money would be simply distributed to strangers.
