Further to S/Sgt. ROWDEN’S release from Sunday:

2010-6079
On Sunday March 7th at 3:32am Prince Albert Police responded to a complaint of a motor vehicle accident in the 2900 block of 15th Avenue East. On arrival it was determined a single-occupant vehicle had struck a parked car at that location. The 38-year old female driver was not injured, but it was determined she was impaired by alcohol.

As a result of the investigation, she has been charged with Impaired Driving and Exceed .08, and after being held in custody overnight, was released on an Undertaking. She is scheduled to appear in Court on March 24th at 1:30pm.

Further to the statistical data indicating 31 arrests, with 21 being related to Intoxicated Persons and/or Breach of The Peace Complaints, 6 persons were also taken to the Brief Detoxification Centre.

In response to some of your questions:
- The replacement of our police vehicles is dictated by our internal policy, and by the Saskatchewan Police Act. For example, patrol vehicles require a factory ‘police package’ (which includes things like upgraded suspensions, brakes, wiring harnesses etc), and are replaced on a staggered 24- month rotation.
- We are somewhat at the mercy of manufacturers in terms of budgeting dates, as we have deadlines to meet with them (build dates) to ensure vehicles ordered are delivered in a timely fashion. These rarely match with civic budget dates.
- Tendering is done as per civic Tendering By-Law
- Vehicles are recycled within the Police Service or City of PA when possible
- Transition costs for things like sirens, lights, silent patrolmen etc are also taken into effect (change from manufacturer to manufacturer)

- I have arranged packages of statistical data for you, reflecting Impaired Driving, Impaired Driving Causing Death, Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm, and Speeding Tickets. Grouped by categories:
1)      Yearly from 2007, 2008 and 2009
2)      January and February period, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010

- ANY statistic in the categories of Impaired Driving causing Injury or Death are unacceptable to this or any Police Service in this country. We fight to eliminate this through a combination of enforcement and public education.

- The Prince Albert Police Service also supports the strong efforts of excellent community partners like SGI, Saskatchewan Health, MADD and SADD in their efforts to eliminate impaired drivers from our roads.

- We encourage our citizens to PLAN AHEAD. If you drink, don’t drive. Plan an alternative ride, use a taxi, call a friend, or stay where you are.
