Prince Albert Police Service advises that over the weekend of Friday September 25th from 7:00p.m. to Monday September 28th at 7:00a.m. Police responded to 348 calls for service, 60 people were arrested, 29 for being intoxicated in a public place and 15 were taken to court Monday morning.
This morning we have with us members of a newly formed partnership between the Dept. of Social Services and the Prince Albert Police Service. The new unit is a “Child Protection Unit” that has been making a difference in the lives of at-risk children and their families.
Members of the unit from the Dept of Social Services are Amy Mokleby and Logan Gansauge.
Members of the unit from the Prince Albert Police Service are Cst Travis Willie and Sgt Rhonda Meakin (not here).
Management from Social Services present today is Ila Wilcox, Erin Cooper and Dwayne MacGillvary.
Representing the Prince Albert Police Service is S/Sgt Brian Bonkowski.
“The unit has been established since May and is housed in the Prince Albert Police Service. The unit responds immediately to reports of physical and sexual abuse of children. Unit staff members remain the lead investigators and child protection workers. Joint case planning and decision-making is also immediate and ongoing.”
Saskatchewan Justice Public Prosecutions have informed the Prince Albert Police that Mr. Phil West will not be prosecuted in relation to the incident on June 11th 2009.
It has never been the rule that suspected criminal offences must automatically be the subject of prosecution. Ie: in the public interest; repeat the offence.
With the attention that this incident has generated, Mr. West will not likely repeat his behavior.
From September 26th at approx. 3:45a.m. police were involved in a criminal pursuit.
Angel, Agnes Priscilla Bird 1987-12-18 has been charged with Breach of Undertaking x 4; Dangerous Driving; Fail to Stop for Police; Assault with a Weapon she appeared in court on Monday September 28th 2009.
From September 19th at approx. 4:00am police responded to a cab being robbed in the downtown area. On September 23rd Police arrested Nikko Ronnie Ross 1988-12-19 for Attempted Robbery and Assault with a Weapon. Ross appeared in court on Thursday September 24th 2009.
