Long Weekend Update – July 3, 2018

The Prince Albert Police Service had a busy long weekend, responding to 449 calls for service and making 87 arrests between Friday night and Tuesday morning.

On June 30, 2018 just after 3:30 a.m., a patrol officer made a routine traffic stop at 15th Street West and 9th Avenue West. The officer confirmed the front seat passenger had an outstanding criminal warrant and advised the male he was under arrest. The suspect fled on foot from the officer, ignoring commands that he was under arrest. The officer pursued the suspect on foot. The suspect was caught and continued to resist arrest. The lone officer was able to handcuff the suspect.

The 36-year-old accused from Prince Albert is charged with resisting arrest, mischief and breach of court order (Info # 991057010). The accused will make his first court appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Tuesday, July 10, 2018.

On June 30, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. police responded to the area of the 800 Block of 18th Street West for a complaint of a male with a handgun. Patrol members immediately attended the area and located a male matching the description given to police by witnesses. The suspect fled from police on a bike when approached by police. As patrol officers surrounded the suspect in patrol cars the suspect dropped the bicycle and fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit the suspect stopped and he was apprehended without further incident. Officers searched the male and located a replica handgun and steak knife in the suspect’s jacket pocket.

A 25-year-old male from Red Earth is charged with breaching his court order x2 (Info # 991057027). The suspect will make his first court appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court today.

On June 30, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. officers responded to the Diefenbaker Bridge for a complaint of a suicidal male. Officers successfully talked the male off of the side of the bridge and transported him to Victoria Hospital for mental health care.

On July 3, 2018 just before 5:00 a.m. while on routine patrol, officers observed a red Jimmy driving at a high rate of speed in the 3400 Block of Central Avenue and lost sight of the vehicle as it turned onto 29th street East. Officers patrolled the area in an attempt to locate the vehicle. While patrolling, police came across two males known to police from previous dealings. The lone officer attempted to arrest the suspect as they gave a false name and were breaching court ordered conditions. The suspect physically resisted the officer’s commands before being placed in handcuffs. Additional officers arrived on scene and the second male was arrested for an outstanding warrant.

The males were searched and officers located keys which belonged to a Jimmy, which officers originally observed speeding on Central Avenue. Officers also located the red Jimmy abandoned a short distance from where the suspects were arrested.

A 37-year-old male from Prince Albert is charged with resisting arrest and breach of court order. The accused will make their first court appearance in Provincial Court on July 4, 2018.

A 45-year-old male from Prince Albert will be appearing in court on outstanding warrants on July 4, 2018.
