PAPS warning residents about phone scam

The Prince Albert Police Service is asking residents to exercise caution if you receive a phone call advising you have won money.

Some recent telephone frauds involve persons unknown contacting the public and advising them they have won money. Directions are given to attend their bank in order to receive the prize. The fraudsters request personal bank information, Social Insurance Numbers and Driver’s License numbers.

Prince Albert Police Service would like to remind residents never to share personal information with anyone, unless you know who they are and there is a reason for them requesting that information.

For more information on frauds or to report deceptive telemarketing, contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre online at www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca or toll free at 1-888-495-8501.

If a resident receives such a call, they should file a report with Prince Albert Police Service online on www.papolice.ca.
