River Runners Set Off on Annual Canoe Trek

The first of two groups participating in the annual Prince Albert River Runners program set off on their canoe trek Monday morning.

A total of 21 local youths are participating in this year’s trips along the North Saskatchewan River. Another group is scheduled to take to the water July 29.

The youth participants vary in age from 13 to 18 and are partnered with adult chaperones, including several members of the Prince Albert Police Service. The trips involve a three-day, two-night voyage from Fort Carlton back to Prince Albert, with participants gaining valuable team-building and communication skills along the way.

“The River Runners trip is always an adventure, both for the young participants and the members of the police service who give their time to take part,” said Sgt. Brandon Mudry with the program. “The participants always come home with new skills and great memories.”

Organizers with the River Runners program would like to thank all our community partners who help make this event possible each year, including the High Noon Optimist Club, the Prince Albert Police Association, City of Prince Albert, Prince Albert Police Service and the Saskatchewan Federation of Police Officers, Prince Albert Northern Bus Lines, Flaman Trailer Sales, B & P Water and Fort Carlton Provincial Park.
